So a little update to Tarja Turunen covering Nightwish´s "Higher Than Hope". For thos who don´t know it still, this song was written by Tuomas for a fan called Marc Brueland, who was from the United States. Marc Brueland was very ill and his family contacted Tuomas Holopainen. Tuomas visited Marc and his family, when he has been in the United States on vacations. Marc was a really big Nightwish fan and so he got the chance to visit a concert of them in Atlanta, United States and he was allowed to watch the whole concert from beside the stage. Nightwish played the song "Walking In The Air" on that concert only for Marc Brueland.
Here you can watch a video of Nightwish performing "Walking In The Air" and Tuomas speaks some words before to Marc Brueland.
A short time later, Marc died. Tuomas has written for him the song "Higher Than Hope" already before, and recorded the song together with Marc, who speaks some words in that song. They released the song on the Once Album.
Now Tarja is covering "Higher Than Hope" on her solo concerts. What do you think about it? Do you think it´s absolutely ok, don´t you care about, or don´t you like it? Let me know!
I mean, of course she covers also Nightwish songs since she has been with the band for more than 10 years, but is it right, to cover THIS song?

I think it's OK , since Tarja performs 'Higher than Hope' with abolute feeling. I have seen her 2 hours ago. I liked its story although it has a sad end for young Marc... :(

Hei! Tarja is not really "covering" the Nightwish songs. She was part of the band for ten years, and they have shared rights over them. And it is nice that she still sings Higher than Hope, it was a song composed according to her voice. And her singing it keeps Marc's memory alive...in my opinion. :)

@Silvia: All rights are for Tuomas Holopainen, who wrote the songs. And unfortunately the point is that Tarja mentioned in an interview of a Finnish magazine, that she doesn´t need Nightwish anymore. So if she doesn´t need them anymore, she should stop singing their songs in my opinion. ;) Nightwish songs are a part of her setlist, which is totally ok, but then she should think better about it what she tells in public about Nightwish.
